Senior engineering judgment, on demand

From a 2-week architecture review to multi-quarter platform delivery — pick the engagement shape that matches the problem in front of you.

Fixed-scope sprint

Architecture review & audit

An outside read on your backend: bottlenecks, risks, and the highest-leverage changes — with diagrams and an ADR pack you can act on.

Deliverables

  • Current-state architecture diagram (C4 + ADRs)
  • Top 10 risks ranked by impact and effort
  • Concrete remediation roadmap (30 / 60 / 90 days)
  • Live walkthrough with engineering and product leads

Ideal for

  • · Pre-Series-A teams scaling past initial product-market fit
  • · Platforms inheriting legacy .NET / SQL Server estates
  • · CTOs wanting a second opinion before a rewrite

Project delivery

Greenfield .NET platform delivery

Design and ship a new backend or product platform end-to-end — from domain model to CI/CD and the first real users.

Deliverables

  • Clean Architecture .NET solution with reference services
  • Postgres / SQL Server schema, migrations, and seed data
  • API + auth + observability baseline (logs, traces, metrics)
  • CI/CD pipelines, environments, and runbooks

Ideal for

  • · Founders building a SaaS or B2B platform from zero
  • · Enterprises spinning up a new product line
  • · Teams that want a senior owner from day zero

Audit & migration

Move off legacy stored procedures, monoliths, or aging stacks — incrementally, with no downtime and no rewrite-from-scratch myth.

Deliverables

  • Migration strategy with kill-switches and rollback paths
  • Strangler-fig delivery plan, slice by slice
  • Reference implementation of the first migrated module
  • Knowledge transfer and team enablement sessions

Ideal for

  • · MSSQL → PostgreSQL or stored-procs → C# domain logic
  • · .NET Framework → modern .NET (8 / 10) modernization
  • · Monolith → modular monolith / selective microservices
Duration
6–12 weeks per slice

Retainer

Fractional architect / advisor

Embedded part-time as your senior technical voice — design reviews, hiring loops, ADRs, and unblock-the-team office hours.

Deliverables

  • Weekly architecture office hours with engineering
  • Design reviews and ADRs for high-stakes decisions
  • Hiring support: rubrics, interviews, calibration
  • Async input on RFCs, incident reviews, and roadmaps

Ideal for

  • · Early-stage teams without a senior architect on staff
  • · Engineering leaders who want a sparring partner
  • · Founders pre-CTO who need senior judgment now

How an engagement works

No surprises, no scope drift

01

Discovery call

30–60 minutes on the problem you're solving, the constraints, and what 'done' looks like. No deck, no pitch — just scoping.

02

Written proposal

Scope, deliverables, timeline, fee, and explicit assumptions. You see exactly what's in and out before signing anything.

03

Delivery in slices

Weekly updates with running artifacts — diagrams, ADRs, code, or a walkthrough — so you see progress, not promises.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you work remotely or on-site?
Primarily remote, across global time zones. On-site for kick-offs or critical workshops where it materially helps the engagement, on a case-by-case basis.
Do you take on full rewrites?
Rarely as a first move. Most 'rewrite' problems are better solved by a strangler-fig migration, an architecture review, or a focused audit. If a rewrite is genuinely the right call, I'll say so — and we'll talk about how to do it without a 12-month moratorium on shipping.
What stack do you work in?
Backend: C# / .NET (8 / 10), ASP.NET Core, EF Core, gRPC, REST, SignalR. Data: PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Redis, Elasticsearch. Frontend: Angular, React, Next.js, Svelte, TypeScript. Cloud: Azure / AWS / Docker. I bring an opinion but I adapt to what your team will own after I leave.
Why don't you publish fixed prices?
Because the meaningful variable in this work is scope, not hours. Once we've talked, I send a written fixed-fee proposal for the engagement so there are no surprises.
Can you train or mentor my team?
Yes. Architecture office hours, design-review participation, code review, and structured sessions on Clean Architecture / CQRS / DDD are part of most engagements I take on, and can be the whole engagement when that's what you need.

Ready to scope an engagement?

Send me the rough shape of the problem and I'll come back with a 30-minute call slot or a written reply within a working day.
